The older my kids get, it seems like the more I pray for them.
Maybe it’s the realization that my ability to protect them and control their choices is diminishing. They are teenagers, after all. I’m negotiating tricky territory. I am still their parent and authority. And yet I know that at times and in certain areas, I have to back off and allow them to make their own mistakes and accept the consequences.
Because that is how they learn — how we all learn.
The wisdom to know when and how to do this is something I pray for daily.
For years, I have taken solace in praying this passage over my children — as well as my husband and myself.
This passage seems to cover everything I could possibly want for my children. I know I am praying according to God’s will. He wants all these things for them, too.
And I’m confident that if they’re equipped with these things they will find peace and hope in God — even when life doesn’t always turn out the way they planned.
It inspired me to make this printable called A Prayer For My Children (above) for you all, so you can have a visual reminder of this prayer for your children, too.
You can frame it and hang it in the playroom, your children’s room(s), or your family room. Using a glue stick, you could also attach it to the front of a spiral notebook that you use as a prayer journal for your family.

How blessed and fortunate is the child whose parent prints, posts and prays this on their behalf. Claiming always that God first loved our children, and then loaned them to us, I take comfort in knowing that He promises to be our children through all things. Thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful prayer, things any mother would wish for her children. Thank you for sharing. I’ve felt this way, too. Like they are moving into their own realm and all I can do now is pray and hope I’ve taught them what they need to know. I sure am grateful to have a belief and understanding of God and His divine love for them. I can’t imagine how fearful I would be if I thought they went out into the world alone.
Thanks for sharing your heart. Have a lovely weekend.
{Melinda} Yes, I am so glad that both of my children have a love for and understanding of God. They still have a lot to learn, but it is reassuring to know they are seeking Him. Thanks so much for your comment, Robin. Hope you are doing well. <3
Lovely! I submitted my email address. I would love one! Thank you 🙂
{Melinda} Awesome! I hope you enjoy it!
I can tell you that as a mom of grown children with their own families, not only do you never stop praying for them, you also have to add to the list their spouses and your grandchildren. More praying!
{Melinda} More prayer is always a good thing! 🙂
This is great! Will be pinning it for my Mommy friends.
{Melinda} Thank you for sharing, Erin!
I think you nailed it. We have less and less control over what they do and say the older they get. You can only pray that they make good choices and they make amends and learn from the times they don’t. Parenting kids as they get older is not for sissies. –Lisa
{Melinda} Yes, ma’am … no sissies need apply for parenting teenagers. 🙂
Melinda, that is such a great prayer to have a say and yes it does cover it all… Thanks for sharing.
{Melinda} You are so welcome, Karen. 🙂
What a great printable and an excellent idea! One of these days I am going to put the verses about children/family together somehow in photoshop and print it out so that I can frame it. Might take awhile, but I know it would be worth it! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
{Melinda} I love praying Scripture for my chldren. Sometimes I just don’t know what they need, but if I pray Scripture, I always know I’m praying according to God’s will.
